The scheme involves the sensitive conversion of a historic barn complex, centred on a distinctive main stable barn notable for its spine wall construction. Although the buildings are not individually listed, they lie within the curtilage of a listed farmhouse, requiring a conservation-led approach throughout the design process.

The proposal carefully retains the character and spatial logic of the original farmstead while adapting it for modern family living. The new residence is arranged around an enclosed courtyard that follows the footprint and geometry of the former formal yard, preserving the historical grain of the site. Original structural features and material textures were repaired, expressed, and integrated into the new layout, ensuring that the agricultural heritage remains legible.

The result is a contemporary family home that respects the historic fabric, enhances the setting of the listed farmhouse, and reinterprets the traditional courtyard typology for modern use.
